“Darb el Msaylha, Darb al Tahoun, Nahr er Joz mills trail” project

The Lebanese Developers implemented a Cash for Work (CfW) project in the Nahr el Joz region to support eco-tourism and income generation activities. This initiative, in collaboration with the Koura and Batroun Union of Municipalities and funded by the GIZ Urban Development Programme for Deprived Areas in North Lebanon (UDP-NL), aimed to promote eco-tourism and enhance local business development, steering communities away from negative coping strategies.

The primary goal of this project was to improve the resilience of local communities by strengthening eco-tourism in the Nahr el Joz area. This objective focused on enhancing local business development and supporting the livelihoods and social integration of both refugees and host communities.

The Lebanese Developers and ALES, in collaboration with the Koura and Batroun Union of Municipalities, have designed actions targeting 780 beneficiaries. These actions included defining and maintaining the Nahr el Joz trail to attract hikers and tourists, thereby boosting local eco-tourism.

Over eight months, 780 beneficiaries participated in CfW activities, which provided training on work safety, trail maintenance, and cooking (specifically for women). These activities not only improved the trail’s condition but also enhanced the livelihoods and social integration of the local communities. The CfW project has defined and maintained a 65 km trail, making it an attractive destination for hikers informed through social media.
